He has over 300 Post Cards and photographs relating to local subjects, press cuttings from local papers, sets of local business directories and a wealth of personal knowledge on local families and history. The collection also contains articles from the family businesses, biscuit tins and advertising material from the grocery shops and Victorian dress and display models from the drapery business.

As with all collections oddities creep in like Michael’s 60 year old Boy Scout uniform, a wall hanging depicting a country scene with a water wheel, and a 4 foot diameter copper tray ploughed up by a local farmer, origin unknown! If you are looking for information on the Appleby, Kirkby Stephen or Brough area of Cumbria, or if you are going to be in the area and would like a look around, then Michael would be pleased to try and help, please contact him by email in the first instance.
